Stubborn Lashes Tips and Tricks!

I have stubborn lashes. There I said it. Its the one part of my body that I feel the most self conscious about. They look like the snuffalaffugus lashes from sesame st.

They point straight down on the inner half and flat against my lid on the outer half. I have owned probably 10 to 15 different eye lash curlers and not one of them have worked! Im not saying that the traditional eyelash curlers don't work. I can use one in a pinch. If I have to use one I like the ELF Studio lash curler. Its super affordable and its one of the ones that kind of work on my lashes.
ELF eyelash curler

$1.49

**Tip & Trick 1** Run the top part of the eyelash under warm water! For a heated curler effect!

I didn't create this tip. But it really works! Turn on the hot water and let it run until its warm. Do not let it get hotter than you can handle when you put your hand under the running water. Burnt eyelids aren't cute! Let the water run over the lash curlers for 10 to 15 seconds, wipe off the excess water and curl your lashes as normal.

**Tip & Trick 2** Heated Eyelash curlers are your best friend.

I know what your thinking. Great! Another expensive contraption that I have to buy. False! First you don't have to buy it. You can use the first tip and the lash curler you already have. And second its not expensive! Here is a link to the one I have and can't live without ( http://www.drugstore.com/ardell-heated-eyelash-curler/qxp146372?catid=183641 )Its the ardell heated eyelash curler and its $4.19. Thats less than a cup of coffee! Plus I have had mine for over a year now and alls you have to do is change the 2 AAA batteries every 3 months or so. There are different styles of heated curlers but this is my favorite. It works like a traditional curler and is comfortable to use.

**Tip & Trick 3** Not all mascaras are created equal.

Finding the right mascara is important to having your curl, volume and length look just right. Mascara commercials lie! Yes, thats right, not everyone can use the same mascara and get that "falsie" look. If you have stick straight lashes and want to  hold a curl after you curl your lashes swipe a layer of waterproof mascara right after you curl them. Then apply what ever mascara you like after that. If you are looking for fuller lashes when applying your mascara "tease" your lashes by starting at the base of the lash and gently moving the bush back and forth until at the ends of the lashes. If you want longer lashes look for a dryer formula mascara that has "fibers" in it. These will adhere to you lashes and give them that little extra umph!
1. Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes $23
2. DiorShow Iconic OverCurl Waterproof $28.50
3. Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof in Very Black $6.60
4. Revlon Grow Luscious Lash Potion Waterproof in Blackest Black $6.79

**Tip & Trick 4** It's the size of the brush that matters.

Ok so maybe not just the size but the brush itself is extremely important. Its not a perfect science not every brush will work for every eye you have to find one that you like. For my crazy lashes I like a bristle brush with lots of bristles I find that this gets each and every lash with a coat of waterproof mascara so my lashes don't lose their curl. Don't be afraid to try different mascaras till you find one that works. Places like Sephora have a great return policy they will let you return products that didn't work for you. As well as the drugstore is a great place to try to find a mascara you like. There are many great mascaras for under $10. Try them out have fun!
1. Tarte (Great lengthening, stiff bristles volumize soft bristles lengthen)
2. Dior (My favorite. Holds a curl for forever and lengthens fantastic. My Holy grail!)
3. Maybelline (Great waterproof formula, Holds a curl all day)
4. Revlon (great volumizing brush very thick formula)

So here they are! My tips and tricks to taming those stubborn lashes!

Lipstick Addict Tag!

This tag was made for me! Anyone who knows me knows that I never leave the house without something on my lips. And I have the lip products to back it up. So grab a beverage and buckle up its going to be a long one!

1. Favorite Balm… Jack Black Natural Mint And Shea Butter Intense Therapy Lip Balm whew! Thats a mouth full! This balm is a life saver. I discovered that I loved lipsticks and lip glosses a few years ago and my lips got abused as I tried all the different wonderful and not so wonderful formulas. As I tried chapstick after chapstick they just got more chapped and flaky and nothing seemed to relieve them. Then I watched a vintage or tacky video and she was talking about this Jack Black Balm and everything Cora was talking about was what I wanted from a balm. I ran out to my nearest Sephora and bought it and it has been the only thing I use now. Its the consistency of vaseline so if you don't like a thick balm this maybe isn't for you. It has SPF 25 which is super important to me and what I look for in a lip balm I am going to be using during the day. The cool minty scent is perfect for day time or night time and after it is all absorbed it leaves your lips silky soft.
$7.50

2. Best Eye Catching Red… My favorite reds are deep rich reds and my favorite is NYX Snow White. How could Snow White not be a perfect red! These NYX lipsticks are so buttery and creamy and they last so long. The Round lipstick in Snow White is a deep rich brick red, its cool toned and makes your teeth look super white! I love pairing this with smokey eye or a neutral eye on the darker side!

$3.99

3. Best Luxury… Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte these are the creamiest lipsticks I have ever used. They have the smoothest texture, they glide on like a dream! I have 3 of them and the colors are all opaque and smooth. and they smell like watermelon! Perfect for the summer. My only complaint with them is they aren't long lasting but the feel of putting them on is worth reapplying them.

29 Opera Rose

4. Best Drugstore… I love drugstore make up. So it was really hard picking just one lipstick from the drugstore that I love. But looking at my collection I realized the ones I reached for the most are my Rimmel Kate Moss Lipsticks. There are the most comfortable matte formula lipsticks I have ever used. The colors are matte but still creamy and they are super long lasting. Also they smell similar to the YSL lipsticks!
109, 107, 103

4. Best Mac Lipstick… I love Mac Lipsticks. Its a problem. I have wayyyyy to many! I bought my first Mac lipstick about 5 years ago and haven't looked back! Its been getting really hot here in Boston and I have been lazy when it comes to lip colors and have been defaulting to nude lips. And I keep reaching for 2 that happen to be Mac. They are Creme Cup and Peach Blossom. Creme Cup is a light pinky nude and I love this one with a brightly colored eye. Peach Blossom is a peach toned warmer nude that I love with a neutral eye or a smokey eye. I keep both of these in my purse because if I forget to put a lip color on in he morning these match anything! Plus they are no fuss, which is perfect for how busy I am.

5. Most Disappointing… I try not to keep disappointing lipsticks. I have enough that I love that I have no room for ones that I don't. Plus I want to talk about things I love not things that I don't. So quickly I dislike the new formula of Loreal Lipsticks. I used to love them 766 Plum Explosion use to be my go to Red. But in the last year or so they have become sheer and they have this unusual floral smell. Plus they aren't creamy they drag on your lip and are not comfortable to wear.  Also the new Urban Decay lipsticks. I don't know if it is the one I have but the formula is so drying and patchy its almost a chore to wear! I love the color. But I have the same color in other formulas that I love. Plus it gets mashed into the cap. Im not just talking about when I have it in my purse but when I store it as well! I have tried storing it 100 different ways and it always ends up being mashed in the cap! I don't think I will be purchasing any more of these any time soon.

2. Raspberry Rush
3. I Pink Your Cute
4. UD Venom

6. Liner Yes or No?… Both! If I am wearing a dark color that I need to go the distance I wear a liner absolutely. But day to day I don't usually wear a liner. I talk a lot at my job and am constantly reapplying my lipstick and just don't have time to go to the bathroom every time to fix the liner. When I do use a liner I like the Urban Decay 24/7 Slide on Glide On Liners. They are creamy and long lasting and they have a good range of colors!

7. Best Gloss… I am not a fan of gloss. I don't like the staying power or the look on my lips and I am always trying new ones and end up not liking them. Until recently when I ordered Tanya Burrs lip glosses. They are amazing! They are pigmented, not sticky, and they smell like strawberry jam! I love to wear them on their own or over a lipstick. I never thought I would love a gloss as much as I love these!

8. Something Extra… My something extra is the first Mac lipstick I bought. I blame this perfect little tube for my make up obsession. I always loved make up. Ever since my mom bought me my first liquid eyeliner from the Avon Lady that came to our house every month.  But the Mac Viva Glam Gaga was the perfect shade of pink and it smelled like vanilla and it was the perfect texture. And from the first moment I put it on I had to have more. Thats when my recent love (or maybe its an obsession) for makeup truly started. It has since broken but it is displayed on my shelves because I don't have the heart to throw it away. And I am on the hunt for a dupe or just another tube.

Full Face Essentials Under $100 and kind of a tutorial

So I saw this post on Pinterest about Beauty Essentials under $100 and I thought it was worth a gander because I love drugstore makeup. As I was looking through the post there were some of my favorite products but you couldn't create a full look with the products they listed! If you are tight on money and didn't have extra to spend on high end make up you need to spend your money wisely. So I raided my stash and pulled out my favorite budget friendly make up items to put together a look! Can I do it for under $100? Lets get started and see!

1. Cover Girl Out Last Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation in 832 Nude Beige
2. Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder in 120 Classic Ivory
3. Cover Girl Tru Blend Fixstick in M123
4. Maybelline Baby Skin

I have super oily skin, so even though a foundation claims to have a built in primer I still like to give myself a little extra insurance that my foundation is going to last all day. I start of by using Maybellines baby skin all over my face. I like this the best out of all drug store primers and it works great! I have used many high end primers and this works just as well for a fraction of the price.

Then I blend the Cover Girl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation all over my face. This foundation is the best I have used drugstore or high end. I can make it through a full 8 hour shift at work and then go out and my foundation still looks fantastic!

I haven't found a lot of concealers that can hold up to my oily skin with out breaking down. This one covers blemishes and stays put all day. The only thing I don't like is that it only comes in 3 shades. I like to apply it to blemishes before and after my foundation.

I love a matte face. It may stem from having oily skin my whole adult life. So I always finish with a powder and one that I love is the Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder in 120 Classic Ivory. There are soooooo many color options that you can find one what fits you. It is not a super long wearing powder but it works well to touch up through out the day. It doesn't look cakey and it makes your face look just as nice as when you first did it. It has a finely milled pressed powder that is super velvety!

1. L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in 892 Amber Rush
2. L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in 800 Bottomless Java
3. Wet n Wild Single Eye Shadow in 252B Nutty
4.Milani Eye Shadow primer

So here is where the mini tutorial comes into play!
1. Take the Milani eye shadow primer and blend a small (and I mean small) amount over both eye lids up to the brow. WAIT 30 SECONDS!!!! That is the trick to making sure that your eye shadow doesn't crease with this primer.
2. With a fluffy brush blend nutty in the crease. I know it has a little shimmer but when you blend it in the crease you don't notice the shimmer.
3. Pack on Amber Rush with your finger. Yes I said your finger. This is about saving money right?! Whats more money saving than FREE! Plus these pressed pigment style shadows work amazingggggg being packed on which your finger. You want to keep in on you lid BELOW your crease.
4. Then use bottomless Java with your finger on the outer. Just use a little to deepen up the outer corner
5. Blend out the crease with the same fluffy brush from step 2.
6. and Viola your done!

1. L'Oreal Lineur Intense in Black Noir
2. L'Oreal Lash Out Butterfly in Blackest Black
3. Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof In Blackest Black
4. NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown
Im liner and mascara obsessed! And there are so many from the drug store that I love! I love the look of liquid liner and this one from L'Oreal is  one of my favorites. Its super black and long wearing. And the brush is actually a brush, its flexible and just the right size if your doing a subtle line or dramatic wing.

Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof is my holy grail mascara. End of story. It is the only mascara that I have ever used that holds a curl in my stubborn lashes! I do not leave the house with out it. And even though it is waterproof its not difficult to take off. If you have lashes that won't hold a curl check this out!

The second mascara I use changes pretty frequently. Recently I have liked the Butterfly Lash mascara. The formula is good. But its the brush that wins me over! It has 2 rows of comb like bristles that are short in the front to get the small lashes in the inner corner and super long near the back to get the outer lashes for that go to look. If you like that Cat Eye Lash effect check out this mascara. Im partial to the waterproof version but I have tried both and love both!

Brows. I am constantly having a battle about how I do my brows. If I'm in a hurry or am being lazy I love a brow pencil and my favorite is the NYX Auto brow pencil. The actual pencil part is flat and makes it super easy to get that perfect arch. The texture is soft and buttery with enough waxiness to hold your brows on the hottest of days.

1.E.L.F Blush in Gotta Glow
2. NYC Bronzer in Sunny
3. Wet N Wild Blush in Heather Silk
I love a good bronzer and its very hard to find a good one from the drugstore. The NYC Sunny bronzer is one of my favorites high end or drugstore. As you can see from the picture I have hit pan and seeming I have about 20 other bronzers it must mean that I love this one! I have a medium skin tone and its the perfect shade for me. For people with a lighter skin tone its going to give you a strong contour and for people with a darker skin tone it might be a little to light. But give it a try!

I am a sucker for a shimmery highlight. I have tried a matte highlight and am never satisfied. In the warmer months I love this ELF blush as a highlighter. It has a gold under tone and gives you that sun kissed look. It is a direct Dupe for NARS Albatross highlight, which I to own and love but its $3. Also as you can see from the picture I have hit pan on this as well and will be repurchasing it when it runs out.

You can't get more pigmented than Wet n Wilds blushes. Heather Silk is the one I chose for this look but I own pretty much all of them and they are all the same quality and I love them all the same. I use a stippling blush with them because they are suppppppeeerrrr pigmented! Pick one up!

1. Rimmel London Lasting Finish By Kate Lipstick in  103
I love the Rimmel "Kate" Lipsticks they are a matte formula that isn't drying. Which is refreshing for any matte lipstick. They glide on smooth and last until you eat or take it off. AND they smell like watermelon which is perfect for the upcoming summer months. I have a bunch but 103 is a perfect mid tone pink that you can wear for everyday or glam up for an evening out!

So what do you think? 16 products? Did we make it? Lets add up the numbers and see!

1. Cover Girl 3 in 1 Foundation…$9.79
2.Fit Me Powder…$7.29
3.Cover Girl Tru Blend Concealor…$8.99
4.Maybelline Baby Skin…$5.99
5.L'Oreal Infalliable in Amber Rush…$7.95
6. L'Oreal Infaalible in Bottomless Java…$7.95
7. Wet N Wild Single in Nutty… $.99
8. Milani Eye Shadow Primer…$6.49
9.L'Oreal Lineur Intense…$9.49
10.L'Oreal Butterfly Lash…$8.99
11. Maybelline the Rocket…$7.77
12. NYX eyeshadow pencil…$4.50
13.NYC Sunny…$2.79
14.ELF Gotta Glow…$3
15. Wet n Wild Heather Silk…$2.99
16. Rimmel 103…$5.39

And (insert trumpet music here) the grand total is…$100.36 woot woot. Yes I am aware that we are over by $.36 but I know that you can find most of these products for cheaper in actual stores than online. Either way you don't need all of these things this is just what I use. You can get away with one mascara, no foundation or no powder, no face primer if you have dry skin and so on. These are just the affordable products I find myself reaching for over my high end products!
